Love is all around: Where do you see love?

Every time I wait for someone at the arrival gates at an airport, I think of the opening scene in Love Actually.

(Man/ Prime Minister David / Hugh Grant):

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world,
I think about the arrival’s gate at Heathrow airport.
General opinion started to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed,
but I don’t see that. Seems to me that love is everywhere.
Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy but it’s always there.
Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends.
When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know,
none of the phone calls from people on board were messages of hate or revenge,
they were all messages of love.
If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling, you’ll find that love actually is all around.”

Every time I go to an airport, I think of love.

I pay attention to acts of love, gestures of love, words of love.

All around me, I notice the five love languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, gifts, quality time and physical touch. I wonder at the beauty of it all.

And then I ask myself, “why don’t I notice it more often?” If love is all around, I should notice it more often -in cafés, on the subway, at the market… I simply have to be more mindful and open my eyes to its presence.

My intention this week is to be more mindful of love all around me. Will you join me?

How mindful are you of the love around you?
Where do you see love?

How do you express your love?
When did you last send a message of love?

How can you show more love?
